About This Opportunity

The Senior System Engineer responsibilities include, but are not limited to, day to day management and maintenance of the Incomm Open Systems Infrastructure.

This system engineer will provide full support for current and future open systems infrastructure. Work with Engineering on process, standards, and configuration management.  Support and maintain all aspects of Linux and Windows server operating systems and hardware.  Serve as a lead on all operations server system related projects. 


1. Server Support

  • Installation and support of Linux and Windows Operating Systems (Windows Server, CentOS, and RHEL) Provide day-to-day service operations of all Linux and Windows Enterprise Services, which include Ansible, Open Shift, Puppet, IPA, PowerShell, scripting and other tools. Day to day service operations shall include: accounts management, file backup and restoration coordination, and system monitoring and diagnostics
  • Work incident tickets and fulfill requests for our internal customers and production environments.
  • Ensure the Enterprise Linux and Windows Servers are fully functional 99.999% of the time, twenty-four (24) hours a day/seven (7) days a week
  • Implement and monitor the Enterprise Linux and Windows Servers disaster recovery and continuity of operations plans.
  • Build and deploy Server images as required from standard templates.
  • Implement and monitor the Enterprise Linux and Windows Servers testing and installation of patches, updates, additional tools and future versions of all software on a daily basis
  • Open communication with all IT teams within to communicate and troubleshoot all IT issues for the assurance of the Enterprise Linux and Windows Servers server reliability
  • Perform full beta-testing to ensure full functionality and integration with all Enterprise Windows Servers prior to applying changes to production systems
  • Provide written test plans and results for approval prior to implementation
  • Perform preventative maintenance and server patching after normal business hours
  • Schedule installation of all required server patches to occur outside of normal business hours so that they do not disrupt the operational capabilities provided to the workforce through the IT infrastructure
  • Perform expansion or consolidation of the servers
  • Distribute all Linux updates via automated software deployment tools to the all standard desktops
  • Configure and deploy new servers using VMWare


2. Moves, Adds, Changes to Hardware and Software

  • Completes user changes, adds, deletes as required in accordance with established guidelines
  • Performs computer hardware adds / moves / changes as required in accordance with established guidelines


3. Special Projects

  • Meets deadlines as both described in project description documents and agreed upon by the internal or external client
  • Provides status updates of each project
  • Contributes ideas for efforts to improve morale, communications, processes, performance in the office
  • Reads, understands, applies, and supports departmental policies and procedures
  • Exercises self-initiative to recognize and act upon departmental needs
  • Assumes and performs other duties and responsibilities not specifically outlined herein, but which are logically and properly inherent to this position
  • Adherence to established disaster recovery policies and procedures - including, but not limited to backups, configuration / change management, and system documentation


1. Education / Experience

  • 5-8 years of Linux and Windows engineering experience in enterprise environments
  • 3-5 years Linux and Windows administration and some experience with Windows Servers
  • Strong experience with automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Jenkins and Satellite
  • Strong experience with Windows Server patching tools such as SCCM and WSUS
  • Strong IT operations and engineering background, preferably in a financial services organization
  • Knowledge of network monitoring and tools
  • Skill in software installation and maintenance
  • Ability to work independently as well as with a team
  • Highly organized with a proven ability to prioritize workload, meet deadlines, manage several complex projects at one time, and utilize time effectively for staff and self.
  • Experience with backup client/server software
  • Required to have experience with cluster software
  • Advanced scripting skills
  • Competent with mainstream office automation, project management, and communications tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with PowerPoint and Visio for workflow architectural diagrams.
  • Experience working with large SAN environment and Enterprise backup required

  • Willing to train users in the use of software or operation of the hardware
  • Strong technical ability as it relates to the maintenance of hardware, software, and connectivity
  • Utilizes company provided training and individual effort to continue growth of industry specific knowledge
